Let me put this into a slightly more urgent perspective for you.
For unknown reasons, we use Quickbooks Premier to also handle
payroll. You just can't find decent accounting WITH payroll for Linux.
Second, as Mr T. Ford pointed out, at the end of May, support for
things in Quickbooks 2005 ends. In my case, Payroll. Do it manually,
send it out, whatever. So anyway, the 2008 CD arrived this afternoon.
Quickbooks is usable beyond End Of Support, but NOT Payroll.
So, either I gotta make Quickbooks Premier plus Payroll run under
Linux, buy an XP license ( I refuse to give microsoft any money. They
want XP, I'm oughta here), or fire the present book keeper and find
one less iron-pants-Quickbookish so I can try GnuCash or one of the
200 or so other Linux accounting systems. No idea whether ANY of
them can easily transfer balances in/out of a Payroll stand-alone.
When it comes to me programming accounting functions, I don't trust
my bubble gum and baling twine approach. I can get pretty much anything
working, more or less, but I always seem to miss a gotcha or two.
I'm not alone - have you heard? SP3 has been delayed because microsoft
in all their great wisdom never checked, and it turns out SP3 trashes the
data base for ms' Retail Merchant software. Their OWN baby, no less!
Anyway, peoples' jobs are on the line.
