As I have just stated in a separate email, IE6 does install and mostly
work in win2000 bottles, but it will require a little magic to start it
as it doesn't create an icon. The executable is still present (it's
located in Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE) so you can
still run it either from the command line in Linux or the Run Command
dialog on the Mac.

Actually, it's the other way around - IE6 works a little better with
DCOM installed, but DCOM doesn't require IE6. However, due to many bugs
in Microsoft's DCOM and lack of features required for newer applications
like Office 2003, we're not using it for any new applications. We've
been fixing many bugs in our implementation to try to make it work with
as many applications (supported and unsupported) as possible. Do you
have an application that doesn't work without Microsoft's DCOM installed?
