	You will find several threads started by me between February and 
October of 2006 that may be relevant. 

	In a nutshell, I tried to run software suites from Garmin, 
Delorme, Maptech, and Topo.com (Marketed by National Geographic magazine) 
under Fedora and CXO 5. 

	I got all but the Delorme to launch and run, but never did manage 
to get any of them to talk either to an older serial port GPS nor to one 
designed to use USB.

	Iow, I got about as far, after eight or nine months' hard work 
and lots of help on various lists, as you seem to have now.

	Maybe something in my descriptions will trigger the idea that 
breaks through for you. Please keep this list informed, whether it does 
or not.
