May be it's just the symbolic link that's missing
# l /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2007-12-16 16:53 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5 -> 
libstdc++.so.5.0.7*

  # l /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.5
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2007-12-16 16:53 /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.5 -> 
libstdc++.so.5.0.7*
