[cw-discuss] MS Outlook & Viruses

Jeremy,

I understand that there has never been a reported infection and think that
is great, but I agree that you cannot say with any certainly that it can't
happen. If you consider WINE, there are reports of Windows viruses working
properly within that environment but again it is rare
(http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2116150/linux-experts-wine-virus). My
main curiosity is with all of these worm viruses that come through spam
email. Some are able to infect secure systems and install SMTP services to
replicate on other systems. I'm concerned that a Windows 2000 Bottle
without proper AV protection could be at risk.

Based on your response, it sounds like I hit a nerve here, which was not my
intent. I have purchased your product in the hopes to run certain Windows
applications like Outlook on my Ubuntu system. As this concern was raised
to me, I wanted to determine what the overall risk factor is. By the sounds
of it, it is a moderate one as there is still the underlying Windows
environment running without any type of AV protection and if someone wanted
too, they could develop some code that could affect a bottle.

This is a risk I have to take into consideration.

Thank you.

What about macro viruses for word or excel? I would assume that they
would run, as would any other VBA macro.
