[cw-discuss] office 2000 stops working

I'm running Ubuntu Feisty kernel  2.6.20-16-generic and crossover standard
version 5.0.3. I have used crossover for years to run office 2000 under
linux and have never had any problems. Since changing my OS to feisty fawn,
however, I have had my office stop working three times. On a fresh feisty
install, I install crossover and then office 2000. All works well for some
time. Then word starts to take a long long time to open. Eventually word and
powerpoint both stop working (they crash all the time and take ages to
open). The first time this happened I tried uninstalling crossover and
reinstalling it (including deleting ~/.cxoffice). This did not help. In
fact, I could not reinstall office 2000. The installer just hung part way
through. I also tried downloading the latest trial version of crossover, but
it had the same problem. In the end I reinstalled the entire OS. This fixed
the problem. However, I am now having the same problem again. Word is
suddenly taking ages to open again. Obviously I can't keep reinstalling my
OS to fix this issue so I must find out what the problem is. I have never
delved deeply into the working/debugging of wine before, so I would greatly
appreciate any advice about what I can do to try to determine what is going
on. I no longer have support from codeweavers, as although I have bought
crossover several times in the past my current version is old enough for my
support to have run out.
