Hi Mike,

I wouldn't bet too much on CXO for this. Synching a Moto with a linux box is 
hard, which is a shame considering Moto phones run linux (well, the 
interesting ones anyway).
There is an project with which I had reasonable success with 
http://www.ohli.de/?J2MESync and my ex Moto A1200.

It uses opensync, which is a growing API for diverse synching schemes. They 
are doing quite great work, you should check.

As for installing software and such, Bluetooth / USB work well anyway.
