Apparently, you really missed an option, 'cause a core part of FreeNX is
the "session suspend" functionality.  I.e. when you disconnect the
client, the server can "suspend" the session, and "resume" it next time
you connect.  Note that it's rather more finicky than vnc/rfp is, as NX
resume actually requires that the client have the same X visual(s)
available as are being used in the suspended session.  But at the same
time, it's also much more flexible, as it allows you to have multiple
sessions.
