Thanks, Manean, but the reason I posted here to the list rather than making 
out a support ticket is precisely because I do realize it's unsupported. I 
had hoped someone else might recognize the symptoms and offer some 
suggestions where I might look.

8)  Use common sense in routing cable.  Avoid wrapping coax around sources of
     strong electric or magnetic fields.  Do not wrap the cable around
     flourescent light ballasts or cyclotrons, for example.
