First Off, thanks for your comments.
I can clearly see the majority of you on this list prefer email.
Frankly, I'm not surprised. Forum advocates would not usually be
subscribed to a mailing list in the first place.
I will keep this list online for the time being. I'm still going to go
ahead and look into improving our web forum code. I don't plan on adding
two way communication via email. We do already have outbound email from
the forums. The main reason for not implementing inbound email is spam.
There just is not a good way to prevent forum spam from email. We could
put in place a verification link system, where you email the forum, then
a link is sent to you to click to approve your post. Even that could be
automated via a spam bot.
Our current forums prevent spam as they require a login. Since our site
is internally written, a spam bot would have to be customized to work
with our login and posting system. I doubt that will happen anytime
soon.
I do like the suggestions of adding a RSS feed to our forums. I will
definitely put that in place. We recently added a changelog RSS to our
Compatibility DB, so the forum implementation would work very similar.
