Personally, I prefer email for this list. I can tag threads that are
interesting to me, use Google's search to find a specific topic, and
gmail keeps threads as a single conversation, which makes it easier to
follow. These a forum can also do. But a forum doesn't allow private
notes. By sending myself an email, I can add private "notes" to a
thread. Also, a forum makes one more place for me to have to go each
day, rather than having the results delivered to me.
Perhaps if the forum has an RSS feed, I wouldn't mind so much. I could
just add it to my aggregator and monitor that way. It would be great
if the feed would present the entire first post in a thread, and give
me an option to subscribe to that thread. If I have to follow a link
to reply, that's not too difficult. I've already got to remember to
click Reply to All and move the CC to the From line when sending to
this list. (Yes, I know you won't change it, but it is a minor rant
for me.)
Overall, if you don't make it too difficult for me to get the
information I need, I'll still be here. :)
