I'm afraid that your first step is to fix the above, and you need
to ask Ubuntu experts for help on how to do that.  For whatever reason,
you're not getting dri.

Maybe; it could just be ignorance on my part.  Generally you
see :0 as the main desktop; it may be something in new Ubuntu
with the fast user switcher uses different X displays to do it's
magic, and I just don't know it <grin>.  However, I wouldn't
worry about that; I think the DRI issue is the problem you need
to tackle.
