But much of what MS does is not done from a "business standpoint".  MS 
could be doing a lot of things to co-operate with and benefit from open 
source.  But it is the mindset of the major players in MS (especially 
Bill Gates) that they must dominate at all costs.  It goes well beyond a 
determined will to succeed, and is really an obsessive need to control 
everything.  If Gates & Balmer were to leave MS & divest themselves of 
their financial interest in the company, you'd see some re-direction in 
MS very quickly.
