We run Crossover Office on our LTSP server.

I'd like to know how to restrict read access of the .desktop  menu files
to certain Unix groups.
I know grep is my friend in this regard.

For instance, I'd create a group of msoffice and set the permissions on
the .desktop files for Microsoft's Office application so that only those
users have menu access to those applications.

Now If I understand the whole freedesktop.org idea, it's those .desktop
files in the menu that participates in setting up the default mime
handler associations for users.
