[cw-discuss] Crossover - VST plugin support?

On Windows I've used both stand alone host and larger apps that host
VSTs. I haven't had any noticeable problems with those in a long time.

On Linux I think that the VST support hasn't ever worked well, and
certainly hasn't worked on enough VSTs to really know. As I say,
probably less than 10% of those I've tried have worked. There have
been audio problems, GUI problems, MIDI problems. It's been a mess for
a long time. That said I haven't really tried much recently. There was
a rather large memory change made to Wine a couple of years back.
(wine-20040505) After that the Wine jack_fst developers said not to
bother with later versions which precluded getting better performance
or new features and fixes. Read more here:

Granted, I've hardly paid attention in the last 12-15 months. Maybe
there are some improvements but it seems to me that talk about VSTs
working has almost died out on the LAU lists. Folks seemed to move
toward native Linux soft synths as they got better and it seemed clear
no one was going to fix jack_fst.

In this area also is the state of Wine's Jack driver which would be
highly preferred by most Linux electronic musicians.

There are lots of issues but it's clear we're both on the same side here.
