[cw-discuss] Any success yet with GPS/topo map interfaces?

A year or two ago, with Fedora 5 or 6 iirc, I made a long and
determined effort, with lots of help from this list and elsewhere on the
Net, to get my GPSs (all Garmins) to talk with proprietary software from
Garmin, DeLorme, Maptech, and topo.com.

I got as far as being able to launch and run two of the four, but
never did manage to make any of them even see the GPSs, much less co-
operate with them, and finally had to give up.

Has anyone managed the jackpot with any of them yet? If so, where
can I read up on it?
