 	So it is -- and exploring that salient fact led me, after a 
curious lucky accident to some more even odder ones.

 	(I reported them on gmane.discuss. I was able to establish, 
knowing already that other Pan users had had similar problems, that 
there is certainly something wrong somewhere besides on my own 
machine -- but not where.)

 	Meanwhile, I *think* I have news.gmane.org access to 
cw-discuss again, at least of a sort. Praise be! And many, many 
thanks!
