[cw-discuss] codeweaver beta vote ethics

Hi Pere,

First of all - thanks for participating on the Compatibility Center -
we really appreciate that.

Second, I suspect we could make the distinction between voting
and pledging a bit more clear. The idea is that being a customer
earns you a vote. Non customers instead 'pledge'. We try to
guide folks to those choices when they click on the
'I need this app to run' link in the compatibility center.

We then try to balance the demands of our customers
(represented both by tickets and votes) with the demands
of potential customers (represented by the pledges).

So there is absolutely no need to buy the product to
indicate that you have need of a given feature.

We are arguably a bit mercenary in that we do ask folks
to put their money where their mouth is. That is, non
customers don't get a generic 'vote' - they instead need
to essentially say to us: "If you fix this, I will buy X".
We tally the Xs and pursue the biggest ones first.

Candidly, we're a small company - we're not exactly
swimming in cash, so we need to be very careful with what
we do so as to maximize our ability to thrive and continue to
improve Wine.

Cheers,

Jeremy
