I found a program that puts a menu in MS Word (only Word) and
bypasses all printer drivers to produce a pdf file. The files created
are searchable and look pretty good to me. I have tested out with a
number of documents that contain lots of graphics, tables etc.
It is called pdf brewer version 2 and is free for personal use though
you do have to enter your name and email. You can get it from
www.cib.de
It also has something called e.pdf which allows you to create a
document that is a hybrid word and pdf but adobe choked on it. Just
untick the check box before saving.
Athough it seems to work on my machine using word xp in a win98
bottle without problems please back everything up - you never know!
I found out why using the wine ps driver you don't get searchable
text. When Word prints to the driver it converts all text to graphics
so if you look in the ps file (save to file when printing in word
gets you the ps) you can't find any of your text.
