It's Ubuntu, not CXO.

HowTo Login as Root to Ubuntu:

First, Go to gnome menu System-->Administration-->User and Groups
There search and select "root", click on "Properties" and change the password. 
There is a system generated random root password that you erase.  Set a new one 
of your choice.
Exit to the desktop.

Next, go to System --> Administration --> Login Screen Setup.
Click the "Security" tab and check "Allow root to login with GDM".
Exit to the desktop.

At that point you can launch Applications -->Accessories --> Terminal
When the term window comes up, su - root and use the password you set
